We are all about freshness. It is what has driven Feedwell ever since we opened our first store in 2017.

Right from the beginning, all of our food has been made by hand, in-store every day, and our customers have come to appreciate that for us, that is what fresh will always mean.

Our produce is locally sourced from Sydney markets each and every morning, with everything we use in our creations coming exclusively from Australian farms.

We bring this same approach to our office catering in Sydney. All of our sandwich platters, salad platters and hot finger food platters are prepared from scratch on the day of your order, individually wrapped in eco-friendly packaging, and delivered to you with care, right on time.

Bespoke Sydney catering for your next event

It can sometimes feel that if you’ve eaten the uninspiring food at one conference, board meeting or corporate bash, you’ve seen and eaten it all. It can sadly be a pretty monotonous stream of the same old stuff.

This is not how we like to do things at Feedwell.

Instead, we take a more bespoke approach, offering a wide variety of food and snacks to ensure that you always have plenty of variety and a wide choice of options to suit all tastes and style of event.

In order to have enough energy to sustain you for the day, it’s essential to live a healthy lifestyle and eat the right foods. Fresh produce like fruit and vegetables are essential, but there are particular foods that can increase your focus, memory and stabilize your mood, more so than others! In fact, the right foods can increase brain power and productivity by up to 20%, according to the World Health Organisation. Find out 5 foods you can incorporate more into your diet to allow you to reach your full potential.

Coffee

There’s a reason so many of us reach for our beloved cup of coffee early in the morning before starting a jam-packed day. Numerous studies have shown that in small doses, caffeine can give you a short boost of energy and alertness, and as a result,  make you more productive in that moment. Medical researcher, Stephen Braun, mentions that caffeine allows us to block the receptors for adenosine, a compound in the brain that causes drowsiness. This is why we feel more awake when we drink coffee, and often why we choose to drink it in the morning.

Salmon

This fatty fish is a great source of fuel to promote productivity, due to its high omega-3 fatty acids content. Omega-3 is known for improving memory, mental performance, and productivity. It is recommended to have at least 226g of salmon a week in order to reap the benefits. Check out our salmon salad here.

Berries

High in antioxidants, berries are known for increasing memory and brain function. Blueberries are high in flavonoids, which can increase oxygen and blood flow to the brain, which helps improve memory and a faster rate of learning. This can last for up to five hours, so it’s great to top blueberries on your oatmeal, or enjoy them in one of our Feedwell seasonal fruit cups in the morning for breakfast, or a snack in the afternoon.

Avocados

They’re filled with fat, but it’s the good fat! Avocados are nice and filling, which means you won’t be so distracted by hunger pains. They also contain tyrosine which is an amino acid that aids blood flow. This is essential to keep the brain alert and engaged, helping to increase focus and productivity. The best part about an avocado is that they are so versatile, as it can be spread on toast, chopped up in a salad, mixed in a guac, or even blended into a smoothie!

Nuts

Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews or peanuts, are all great options to eat when you need a sustainable boost of energy. Nuts contain monounsaturated fats and amino acids, which both help the neurotransmitter function, allowing you to process information quicker and be more alert. Also filled with Vitamin E, magnesium, and B-vitamins, which help aid in focus and relieve fatigue. Here at Feedwell, we love to get our source of nuts from our crunchy granola made in-house! This is delicious topped on our natural yoghurt. See granola yoghurt pods here, or our healthy peckish pack here.

Now of course each and everyone is different, so you should always consult a professional if you have any concerns or questions about your diet and nutrition and what will work best for you. This article is not meant to be health advice.

We have all been told of ‘Life Changing products to use’, that didn’t really change your life at all. However, drinking the recommended intake of water each day, truly can. For many, drinking 2-3L of water daily seems like mission impossible, but once you read about all the health improvements you will feel once you consume more H20, you may be running to the kitchen sink for a glass more regularly.

Improves energy, and your mood!

Water helps carry nutrients to your body’s cells, fueling your brain, and energising your muscles. When you are dehydrated, it will leave you feeling tired, sluggish, and drained, which can ultimately affect your mood. By keeping hydrated, your brain will function better, helping you understand information, problem solve, and complete your day with energy!

More regular bowel movements

Drinking water helps maintain a smooth, flowing digestive system, as it can help break down food, and flush waste through the intestines, relieving constipation.  Drinking more water also makes you urinate more often, flushing out toxins from your body. When we sweat, urinate, or breathe, we are losing water, so it’s so important to hydrate yourself regularly to keep your body functioning to the best of its ability.

You will feel less bloated

Although you may think filling your stomach up with liquid may make you more bloated, it actually does the complete opposite! When you’re dehydrated, your body holds onto as much fluid as possible, which can cause you to feel bloated. When you’re hydrated, your body will happily let go of fluids it doesn’t need, and can actually help your stomach feel flat and healthy.

You snack less!

When you’re dehydrated, your body can trick you into thinking you are hungry, when really you just need a big glass of water! It’s common for people to reach for a snack when working or wanting to have a break, but if you have a bottle of water in front of you, it can hit the spot, without any of the calories. Of course, drinking water can also boost your metabolism, so you can

Clearer skin

If you struggle with dry, rough skin, drinking water may help you! Staying hydrated can balance the oil and water content on the skin of your face, which means fewer clogged pores and acne. Acne has become increasingly popular in this generation due to all the processed food, fast-paced life, and lack of dehydration.

Eating certain foods can hydrate you too!

Some foods contain more water than others, these include:

  • Watermelon
  • Strawberries
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes

Now of course each and everyone is different, so you should always consult a professional if you have any concerns or questions about your diet and nutrition and what will work best for you. This article is not meant to be health advice.

It’s the secret we are all after. How to stay full for a longer period of time. Thankfully there are foods that can do this. Packed with the right nutrients, you can eat these foods regularly, and prevent those hungry growls and lack of energy that can occur so regularly.

The term that is used to explain a feeling of fullness is called satiety. In 1995, a team of researchers put together a satiety index which measured 38 different foods that contained 240 calories, and tested these foods with patients to determine which foods kept the patients fuller for longer.

Foods that keep us fuller for longer tend to be high in protein, high in fiber, high in volume, and low in energy density.

Here’s a list of foods that you can incorporate into your diet to help you consume less calories, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce snacking!

High fiber foods:

Fiber is essential in our day to day diet, as it helps control blood sugar levels and cholesterol. Fiber is slow to digest, which can make us feel fuller for longer.

High fiber foods include:

  • Barley
  • Oats
  • Rye
  • Whole-wheat bread
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Legumes

Drink water:

It’s very common for us all to think we are hungry,  when in fact we are just dehydrated. Water can take up space in our stomach that can help assist with the feeling of satiety. Try make sure you have consumed 2-3L of water a day before you grab yourself a snack out of hunger!

Eggs:

Eggs are a great ingredient that can be cooked in multiple ways –  poached, scrambled, or boiled. Eggs are high in protein and rank high on the satiety index scale, which means they help you feel fuller for longer. To be healthy, add a boiled egg to a salad for lunch!

Greek yoghurt:

This creamy goodness is full of protein, having more than double the amount of protein than your regular yoghurt. The combination of texture and protein also makes you feel like you are eating more than you think!

Sleep:

The less sleep you get, the more your body craves energy, the hungrier you feel, the more you eat! Feeling sluggish, tired and exhausted can encourage you to reach for a snack. By getting enough sleep each night, your body will feel recharged and energised, which reduces those annoying hunger pains.

Avocado:

Avoid the bad fat, eat more of the good fat, like avocados! The fats found in avocados take longer for your body to digest, which means it takes longer to leave your body and as a result keeps you feeling fuller for longer. Avos are also high in fiber, and are great to have in a salad, smoothie, or spread on a piece of rye toast.

Nuts:

Like avos, nuts also are high in fiber and in fat (the good kind). To keep your hunger pains at bay, it’s important to stick to a ‘handful’ serving size when eating nuts. Almonds have the highes fiber content, making them a great snack if you can stick to maximum 15 per serve.

Spices:

Spicy food such as red chilies or cayenne pepper can add a pack full of flavour to your meal,  but also can help you feel fuller for longer as spices act as an appetite suppressant. If you’re not a spice fanatic, try adding a little spice here and there to your meals to build your tolerance.

Now of course each and everyone is different, so you should always consult a professional if you have any concerns or questions about your diet and nutrition and what will work best for you.

The best way to think of your immune system is to think of the army – there to fight and protect anything that threatens to damage or take over, foreign or domestic! Our immune system protects us against infections, disease, and can also help us recover from injuries. In order for our immune system to protect us, we need to fuel it with the right food to give it the best armour possible. See below the foods you can incorporate into your diet to ensure your immune system is ready for battle. (Last army reference, I promise).

Citrus Fruits

Vitamin C is an important nutrient to consume when you want to fight off sickness and improve the immune system.  This is because Vitamin C helps encourage the production of white blood cells, which are essential to fight off infections. You’ll often find citrus fruits are filled with this vitamin, such as grapefruits, oranges, mandarins, lemons and limes (to name a few). Vitamin C needs to be consumed daily, as our body does not produce or store it. The recommended daily intake for women is 75mg, and for men, 90mg. 1 small orange contains 53.2mg, to give you a rough understanding on how much to consume.

Turmeric

Turmeric is an ingredient that comes with a lot of added benefits, as it helps the body naturally cleanse, and can assist in fighting infections such as colds and flu, due to its anti–inflammatory qualities.

It is the ingredient in Turmeric called cucurmin, which is actually what really assists and improves a healthy immune system. This ingredient can help fight against viral replication, and suppresses various inflammatory molecules which are responsible for the damage by viruses.

Ginger

It’s common for people to order a juice with ginger to help fight off that tickling sensation at the back of their throat when one may feel they’re getting sick. That’s because ginger contains many potent anti-inflammatory compounds such as antioxidants, which help protect your body from damage.

You won’t have a strong immune system by consuming ginger for one day, so try drinking ginger tea regularly, or consuming a ginger concoction regularly.

Broccoli

Vitamin C as mentioned above is one of the essential nutrients to consume in order to have a healthy immune system, and broccoli is loaded with it! In fact, a half cup of broccoli contains 84% of the RDI (recommended daily intake) for vitamin C! Broccoli is also known to strengthen bones, improve skin, and is filled with fiber for a healthy digestive system.

Garlic

Garlic is a popular ingredient when cooking, and can often leave you with an interesting smell of breath. However, garlic is beneficial not only for the strong flavour, but for our gut. When garlic is crushed or chewed, a compound called alliin, turns into allicin, which then converts into sulphur containing compounds. These compounds help assist the disease-fighting white blood cells, and as a result assists our gut fight off viruses, diseases or the common cold or flu. This will also assist with maintaining a healthy lifestyle as well.

Now of course each and everyone is different, so you should always consult a professional if you have any concerns or questions about your diet and nutrition and what will work best for you.

It can be tough to stay disciplined and eat healthily at work, particularly with all the delicious cafes close by, vending machines with chocolate and soft drink, or when you’re just plain bored and you use food as a distraction from your day’s work. To help keep you on track, here are four simple choices you can make every-day to avoid temptations and eat healthily.

Stop skipping breakfast!

You slept in too long, your kid can’t find their favourite toy, or you can’t find your keys. Being late can sometimes feel inevitable, but it can also cause you to rush out the door and skip breakfast.  Come 10am, you’re so hungry you could eat anything, the temptation is too hard to ignore and you scoff down a bacon and egg roll. (Alright, I may be talking from personal experience here… but you get my drift, it happens!).

There are so many proven benefits to eating a wholesome, nutritious breakfast to start your day. These include regulated blood sugar levels, improved productivity, reduced risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and most importantly breakfast gives you the fuel to keep you going for the day. By eating a nutritious breakfast, you’ll feel less distracted and tempted to eat something naughty, and you’ll also be far more focused!

Click here to view a list of healthy breakfast ideas.

Stick to structure

By creating a structured meal plan in your day, you can ensure you’re eating nutritious food, whilst remaining satisfied and reducing snacking. This encourages eating 5 meals a day, instead of snacking continuously through-out the day. Each week, set out a weekly planner of what you plan to eat each day.

Stay hydrated

Did you know the human body finds it difficult to distinguish between hunger and thirst? That’s why it’s so important to ensure you’re hydrated through-out the day. To do this, try taking 7 big sips of water before and after every meal you have, and to always keep a full water bottle at your desk. According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, men should have at least 3.7 litres of water a day, and women should have at least 2.7 litres a day.

Snack Smart

Stock up on healthy and balanced snacks. If you don’t enjoy packing your bag full of food, keep healthy snacks in your draw that don’t need refrigeration. To view a list of these snacks, click here. If you do have a fridge in your office and can store food, here are some fresh snacks! These snacks are nutritious, delicious, and most importantly – keep you full!

Whether it’s dietary requirements, food allergies, or a moral compass, more and more people are changing their lifestyle by adapting their diets. The standard order for office catering, lunches and meals has been influenced by this change, and businesses are now looking for catering and food delivery companies who provide more options for gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan diets.

So, what does it mean to be vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free?

Vegetarian

A person who is vegetarian means they do not consume any meat or fish in their diet. People may choose a vegetarian diet for religious reasons, for moral reasons, for sustainability, for food intolerances, health reasons or simply a preference. Some vegetarians may include fish in their diet, so it’s important to check with staff members before ordering for them.

Vegan

To be a vegan, means you do not include any animal products, including dairy and eggs as they are derived from animals. Individuals choose a vegan diet usually due to ethical, environmental, or health reasons.

Gluten Free

A gluten free diet involves excluding foods that contain gluten, found in wheat, rye and barley. This diet is usually for people who have a severe allergy to gluten, however many choose this diet for health reasons too.

We provide a variety of food which accommodates all different tastebuds and dietary requirements. Whether you are eating our food in one of our stores, for catering or at home, feel free to reach out if you need any assistance in ordering with us to accommodate your dietary requirements.

Fast food has been around for years and years, heavily marketed to us as this delicious, cheap, convenient meal –  and it’s worked. A study conducted in 2018, found that 83% of Australians admit to enjoying unhealthy fast food. This type of food may be delicious and easy to order, but it’s negative effects from consumption can easily outweigh any positives.

1. You may feel lethargic and tired

With the large serving sizes that come with fast food such as the popular burger, fries and coke combos, it’s easy to overeat, which can leave you feeling full, bloated, and lethargic. Due to the high sugar content, your body sugar levels may spike, then crash, leaving you feeling more tired than before you ate.

2. Your skin may break out

Food high in simple sugars often found in white flour, are the foods that will have a greater negative impact on your skin. These foods increase congestion of oils, block the pores and deteriorate the skin, and can contribute and sometimes be the cause of an acne breakout.

3. Memory and cognitive function

Some fast food can be filled with saturated fats, and research has shown that saturated fats can impact your memory speed.

4. Teeth decay

Soda drinks can increase the amount of acidity in your mouth, which is a huge contributor to decaying teeth. Although your fast food order of chips, fried chicken, chips and a fizzy drink may be cheap, visiting the dentist for tooth decay isn’t.

5. Increased risk of obesity

Fast food is filled with saturated fats, sugars, and carbs, and it’s very easy to overconsume. Due to fast food being filled with empty calories with little to no positive nutrition, your body will process the calories to fat, causing you to gain weight faster.

We’re the first to admin, junk food can be tasty! And everything in proportion. Whilst these meals can be assumed as a treat, they should not form part of an ongoing healthy lifestyle.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt personally victimized by bloating *Raises hand*. Bloating does not discriminate and can happen to the best of us. Bloating can leave us feeling sluggish, tired, irritable, and overall affect our well being.

So what is bloating and how is it caused?

Bloat is a buildup of gas, and can be often caused by digestion, too much swallowed air, or from an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. Another sensation of bloating can be caused from excess water retention. Many people who have experienced bloating describe it feeling as if a balloon has been blown up in their stomach, NOT FUN!

Bloating is unfortunately very common, and millions of people all over the world suffer daily. We have put together a list of foods that can assist or prevent bloating. Please keep in mind that people who suffer from IBS and have been recommended a low FODMAP diet, may not be able to eat all these foods.

Now, let’s step on that gas! (excuse the pun)

Celery and Fennel

Celery and Fennel contain natural diuretics, which assist in flushing out any excess water in your body. Excess water storage is a contributing factor to feeling bloated, so by including fennel and celery into your diet regularly, you can say “adios amigos” to your bloating.

Asparagus

Known for making your urine smell, it also makes you urine often, and assists flushing out the toxins in your body. Asparagus also contains compounds that act as prebiotics which help support the growth of ‘healthy/good’ bacteria, and this can assist in a healthy digestive system and gut.

Ginger

One of the oldest herbal medicines in the world, ginger can aid bloating due to its digestive enzyme called zingibain, which assists the body to break down foods and help process protein. Ginger also contains many potent anti-inflammatory compounds that calm down your intestines and colon, allowing you to pass food more easily, and reduce gas and bloating.

Lemon

The famous supermodel (not me) Miranda Kerr, (close enough), drinks hot water with lemon every morning to help kick start her digestion, and she’s right in doing so – it really does work! Drinking lemon and water regularly before a meal can double your hydration intake, but also boosts the digestive system, as the acidity of the fruit helps the GI tract chug along faster.  Nice work Miranda!

Papaya

Papaya is the digestive rockstar. Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, and this works as a laxative, which helps get the body’s elimination process operating, getting rid of excess waste, and aiding bloating and digestive discomfort. Hot tip – squeeze fresh lime on your papaya and thank me later!

Raspberries & Blueberries

Fruits can often have a high sugar count, and this can leave you feeling gassy and bloated. However, these two berries are lower in sugar and high in fiber and water, so your digestive system can keep going n’ flowing, no gas required.
